Refugee and migrant children are a particularly sensitive population group that often faces greater health risks and numerous obstacles to access quality health care. Many children and families have serious emotional problems caused by the trauma of having to leave their homes, while some of them have been victims of abuse and exploitation, including sexual and gender-based violence. One of the challenges this population faces is the use of psychoactive substances. The use of these substances belongs to risky behaviors that carry an increased risk of overdose, risky sexual behavior, use of other psychoactive substances such as alcohol, addictions, violence and injuries.
