Training for Local Commissioners Completed: Certificates Awarded for Returnee Reintegration Support

Today, the third module of training within the National Program for the Reintegration of Returnees under the Readmission Agreement 2025-2026 was successfully completed at the Training Centre in Plandište, with certificates awarded to 60 local commissioners from different regions of Serbia in recognition of their successful training completion.

These trainings were conducted in cooperation with the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia and the German Organization for International Cooperation (GIZ) as part of the national “Program for the Reintegration of Returnees under the Readmission Agreement 2025-2026.” The goal of the training was to enhance the capacities of local authorities in providing effective support to returnees and facilitating their reintegration into society.

The certificates were presented by Bojana Ćirić, Assistant Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, who emphasized the crucial role of local commissioners in the process of returnee reintegration.

“I congratulate all participants on successfully completing the training and making a significant contribution to building sustainable solutions at the local level. Throughout the training, commissioners completed three modules covering topics such as working with vulnerable groups, recognizing and preventing stress and burnout syndrome, effective communication with individuals in difficult life situations, as well as local-level coordination and best practice exchange. Additionally, the training covered topics of anti-discrimination, gender perspectives, and the identity, culture, and history of the Roma community. I want to highlight the importance of these trainings and the critical role that local commissioners play in the reintegration process of returnees, which is of great significance to society,” said Assistant Commissioner Ćirić.

The first and second training modules were conducted in November last year, while the third and final module was held today. The training sessions were organized to equip local commissioners with the necessary skills to effectively support returnees and their reintegration, with a special emphasis on communication, coordination, and addressing specific challenges that returnees face.
