Successfully conducted three-day training for trainers within the MIRCO project at the Regional Migration Training Centre in Plandiste
At the Regional Migration Training Centre in Plandiste, from June 10 to 12, 2025, a three-day training of trainers was successfully conducted within the project “Strengthening the regional cooperation on migration management between Western Balkans and neighbouring EU Member States in accordance with EU Acquis and international standards” – MIRCO.
At the beginning of the training, Danijela Nedic, Assistant Commissioner for Refugees and Migration, welcomed participants, presented the capacities of the Regional Migration Training Centre in Plandiste, and emphasized the importance of such regional initiatives for strengthening institutional capacities in the field of migration.
The first three-day training was dedicated to three curricula: Global and Regional Migration Governance, Migration and Development, and Migration and Gender. These modules were developed in cooperation with Maastricht University, whose distinguished experts – Melissa Siegel, Lalaine Siruno, and Talita Mortimer Dubow – led interactive workshops, group work, and plenary discussions during the second and third day.
On the first day, participants attended a training of trainers and facilitation skills, led by Sandra Jansson, an expert from the Swedish Migration Agency.
The training brought together representatives of institutions that are the final beneficiaries of the MIRCO project – the Ministry of Interior of Montenegro, the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Interior of North Macedonia, as well as the host, the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia.
In addition to these three, seven more curricula will be developed in the upcoming period, covering topics such as: prevention of torture and protection of migrants’ rights, protection of victims of human trafficking, children and youth in migration, combating migrant smuggling, legal migration, migration and security, as well as human rights. The trainings will be delivered both in person and through a digital platform that will be established within the project.
The MIRCO project, aimed at strengthening regional cooperation in the field of migration and asylum, as well as enhancing migration management capacities in line with European standards, is co-financed by the European Union and implemented by the Swedish Migration Agency (SMA), in cooperation with the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, which participates as one of the key partners in its implementation.
