As part of the project “Individual Measure for Strengthening the Irregular Migration Management System and Combating Organized Crime in the Western Balkans for 2024,” funded through the Multi-Beneficiary IPA, a significant two-day workshop was held. The goal of the workshop was to identify the needs of beneficiary institutions and develop project activities that will enable the finalization of the Action Document and Budget.
The primary objective of the workshop was to gather data on the current situation in the field and identify the needs of institutions working with migrants and refugees. The focus was placed on ensuring adequate and sufficient reception and protection services for the migrant and refugee population. Some of the key areas discussed included support for the Commissariat in covering operational costs of reception centers, healthcare services, social protection, and the inclusion of educational institutions welcoming migrants and refugees.
Danijela Nedić, Assistant Commissioner, emphasized the importance of this workshop in ensuring the successful implementation of activities and providing timely and high-quality support to relevant institutions.
The “Individual Measure for Strengthening the Irregular Migration Management System and Combating Organized Crime in the Western Balkans for 2024” represents a crucial step in building the capacity of Western Balkan countries to effectively manage migration and combat organized crime. This EU-funded action plan includes a range of activities, such as improving institutional systems, training experts, developing better migration policies, and preventing criminal networks involved in human trafficking, smuggling, and other forms of organized crime. The Commissariat plays a key role in coordinating activities among institutions and implementing measures, concluded Assistant Commissioner Nedić.
The workshop was held at the Regional Migration Training Center of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration in Plandište, with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans, and Social Affairs, Ministry of Health, Ministry of European Integration, as well as delegations from international agencies.
We extend our gratitude to all participants and partner institutions for their active engagement in this important process, which we hope will result in an improved migration management system and a more effective fight against organized crime.
